Jalandhar: DAV College, Jalandhar celebrated International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm by organizing “Tarang – The Femme Fiesta” . The event was organised by the Women Cell of the college to celebrate the creativity, strength, and empowerment of women. The programme was graced by Mrs. Neelam Mahay, PCS, Deputy Director, Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training, Jalandhar as the Chief Guest. Dr. Arush Pascricha, Plastic Surgeon, Pascricha Hospital, Jalandhar was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Supriya, Department of Fine Arts, DAV College Nakodar, and Chef Ruchit served as judges for the various competitions conducted during the fiesta.

The dignitaries were warmly welcomed by Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar, along with Vice-Principals Prof. Kunwer Rajeev and Prof. Sonika, Registrar Prof. Ashok Kapoor, Bursar Dr. Manu Sood, Deputy Registrar Prof. Manish Khanna, Prof. Sharad Manocha, Dr. Seema Sharma, Prof. Ekjot Kaur, and Dr. Deepali Handa, Convener, Women Cell, along with all the members of the Women Cell.

Principal Dr Anoop while addressing the audience emphasised that at DAV College, Jalandhar we firmly believe that education and skill development are the true foundations of empowerment. Our aim is not only to provide academic knowledge but also to nurture creativity, leadership, and self-reliance among our students. Events like Tarang provide a wonderful platform for our girl students to showcase their talents and develop confidence. He congratulated the Women Cell of the college for organizing this meaningful celebration and providing a space where the spirit and strength of women are celebrated.

A number of creative and engaging competitions were organised under different segments of the fiesta. Shabd Rang included Just A Minute (JAM) and Extempore Speaking competitions that highlighted the speaking skills and confidence of the participants. Pag Rang featured a Solo Dance competition, showcasing the grace and artistic expression of the students. Swaad Rang included a Fireless Cooking competition where participants demonstrated their culinary creativity. Rang Tarang displayed the artistic talents of students through competitions such as Rangoli, Mehendi, Poster Making, Nail Art, Phulkari, and Crochet.

Around 125 girl students enthusiastically participated in various events, making the celebration vibrant and memorable. The event provided a wonderful platform for students to display their creativity, talent, and confidence while celebrating the spirit of womanhood.

The Chief Guest, Mrs. Neelam Mahay in her address  on the occasion expressed that International Women’s Day is not just a celebration but also a reminder of the importance of empowering women and ensuring equal opportunities for them in every field. She said that women today are excelling in education, administration, business, science, arts, and technology. However, empowerment becomes truly meaningful when women are equipped with skills, confidence, and awareness to shape their own future. The Government of Punjab is making continuous efforts to promote skill development and employment opportunities for youth, especially girls. Through the Department of Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training, several programmes have been launched to help young people become self-reliant and career-ready and these initiatives provide vocational training, professional skills, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship guidance. Training programmes are conducted in areas such as IT skills, communication, hospitality, fashion design, healthcare assistance, retail management, and many other emerging sectors. The objective is to bridge the gap between education and employment so that students can confidently enter the professional world.

The celebration concluded with appreciation for all participants who contributed to making “Tarang – The Femme Fiesta” a successful and inspiring celebration of International Women’s Day.  The winners and participants  were distributed with medals and certificates to acknowledge their enthusiasm and hard work. The stage was conducted meticulously by Prof. Geetika Jain. The programme was also attended by Prof. Tnu Mahajan, Prof. Ritu Talwar, Prof. Shweta Prof. Pooja Sharma, Prof. Suruchi Katla, Prof. Neetu Sharma, Mrs. Little and all the members of Women Empowerment and Grievance Redressal Cell, Dr. Kirandeep Kaur, Dr. Komal Soni, Dr. Preety Aneja, Prof. Geetika Jain,  Dr. Varun Dev Vashishtha,  Dr. Kapila Mahajan, Dr. Sapna Sharma, Dr. Hina Arora, and Prof. Kuldeep Khullar. Finally to conclude, the formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Hina Arora.
